Production and quality of Mombaça grass forage under different residual heights Animal Sciences
Carvalho, Ana Luiza Silva; Martuscello, Janaina Azevedo; Almeida, Otávio Goulart de; Braz, Thiago Gomez dos Santos; Cunha, Daniel de Noronha Figueiredo Vieira da; Jank, Liana.
This study was conducted to evaluate management strategies in Mombaça grass pastures (Panicum maximum) under intermittent grazing subjected to different residual heights. A randomized-block design with two treatments (two post-grazing residual heights: 30 and 50 cm) and three replications was adopted. Pasture heights pre- and post-grazing, forage mass and accumulation, rest and occupation periods, pasture morphological components, milk yield and quality forage were evaluated. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and the means were compared by the F test at 5% probability. A longer grazing interval was observed in the treatments under the more severe grazing intensity. For forage mass post-grazing, larger production and higher percentage of...

Repeatability and phenotypic stabilization of Panicum maximum accessions Animal Sciences
Martuscello, Janaina Azevedo; Braz, Thiago Gomes dos Santos; Jank, Liana; Cunha, Daniel de Noronha F. V. da; Lima, Bruno Patrick da Silva; Oliveira, Leandro Pereira de.
The experiment aimed at determining repeatability coefficients for four methods (analysis of variance, principal components-correlation and covariance matrices and structural analysis), number of harvests necessary to increase accuracy and phenotypic stability of yield characteristics of accessions of Panicum maximum. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with 35 genotypes and three replications. Five cuts were made and material was weighed and dried to obtain total, stem, leaf and dead forage dry matter yields. The repeatability coefficients in the different methods, for the evaluated characteristics, ranged from 0.1867 and 0.6583. The estimates of repeatability coefficients obtained for the evaluated characteristics by analysis...

Repeatability, number of harvests, and phenotypic stability of dry matter yield and quality traits of Panicum maximum jacq. Animal Sciences
Fernandes, Francisco Duarte; Braga, Gustavo José; Ramos, Allan Kardec Braga; Jank, Liana; Carvalho, Marcelo Ayres; Maciel, Giovana Alcântara; Karia, Claudio Takao; Fonseca, Carlos Eduardo Lazarini.
Selection of superior forage genotypes is based on agronomic traits assayed in repeated measures. The questions are how repeatable the performance of individual genotypes is and how many harvests are needed to select the best genotypes. The objectives were to estimate repeatability coefficients of dry matter yield (DMY) and forage quality, their phenotypic stability and the number of harvests needed for an accurate selection. Two randomized complete block design experiments data with 24 genotypes each, undergoing 12 and 16 harvests, over a period of 2 and 3 years, respectively, were used. The DMY repeatability estimates ranged from 0.42 to 0.55, suggesting a low heritability. The mean numbers of repeated measures were 5 and 7 harvests for 0.80 and 0.85...
